Josh McDaniels Makes 1 Thing Clear For Raiders’ Draft Plans

The Las Vegas Raiders made a rather bold decision this offseason, moving on from Derek Carr and releasing him without having an actual backup waiting in line.

Jarrett Stidham was once considered an intriguing prospect, but he’s shown little to nothing in the limited snaps he’s gotten at the professional level.

So, with the Raiders reportedly ready to enter the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes, some also speculate they could be looking at their QB for the future in this year’s NFL Draft.

Obviously, that means that HC Josh McDaniels and their scouts could be quite busy during the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis, and it’s not like they’re doing a lot to deny the rumors.

When asked about it, McDaniels didn’t hesitate to confirm that the Raiders will be in the market for a young quarterback to develop, adding that the team has already set its sights on several prospects:

“We love quarterbacks,” McDaniels laughingly said on SiriusXM radio. “So, we all know we have an opening there at this point now, and we’re gonna get that started tonight actually, we’re gonna get to meet with six or seven of them tonight just to have an introduction, and it’s a long process, there’s a lot that goes into it but there’s some quarterbacks to like, that’s for sure.”

It seems pretty clear Josh McDaniels is looking to acquire a young quarterback he can develop into a franchise piece for the Silver and Black.

Of course, we all know that not many QBs are NFL-ready right out of the gate.

In fact, most of them need a couple of years on the sidelines, learning the ropes of the game, getting to know a new offense, and learning behind a veteran.

So, the fact that they’re looking to bring in a young quarterback doesn’t immediately rule them out of the race for Rodgers.

The Green Bay Packers star is set to turn 39 and doesn’t seem like the guy who wants to keep playing deep into his 40s, so it would make sense for them to have a young gunslinger learning from him in the two or three years he may have left.
