Jimmy Garoppolo’s days with the San Francisco 49ers are over, at least according to the 49ers themselves.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said a few weeks ago he didn’t see a scenario in which the quarterback would be wearing the red and gold in 2023, and general manager John Lynch agreed with the opinion.

Garoppolo is on his way to not only becoming a free agent, but one of the more coveted free-agent QBs on the market.

Lynch explained why that will be during an episode of the podcast “49ers Talk” with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports.

John Lynch shared with @MaioccoNBCS some of Jimmy G’s “freaky” skills he believes will make the QB a hot-ticket item this offseasonhttps://t.co/acHUlmHLF9

“Even good football people, I tell them, if you’re around this guy every day, he’s a freak, the way the ball comes out of his hand, how quick his release is, his ability to just, boom, without really setting his feet,” Lynch said. “He does some freaky things.”

Garoppolo arrived in San Francisco in 2017 when the team was going through a painful rebuilding process that started in 2014.

They immediately went on a five-game winning streak upon his arrival via trade, and just two years later they reached the Super Bowl.

2017 was a huge infection point for the entire 49ers organization, as it also marked the year Shanahan and Lynch took over for Chip Kelly and Trent Baalke, respectively.

Although Garoppolo may not be a championship-caliber signal-caller, he is a very good one, not to mention one of the most accurate ones.

He has also been lauded over the years for his leadership and class, and his early experience playing on the 2014 and 2016 world champion New England Patriots behind Tom Brady will be an added bonus to the team that snags him.

Garoppolo put up 2,437 passing yards and 16 passing touchdowns with a passer rating of 103.0 and a completion rate of 67.2 percent in 10 starts before suffering a season-ending foot injury.
