Eagles thrash 49ers and Head to Super Bowl

Philadelphia is once again going to the Super Bowl. And they look like a team poised to win it all after their crushing 31-7 win Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Philadelphia dominated with its rushing game. All four of its touchdowns were rushing touchdowns, two of them by running back Miles Sanders.

San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey scored the 49ers’ one and only touchdown.

The 49ers went into this game weakened by injuries. They suffered more as the game got underway. Leading quarterback Jimmy Garropolo is still recuperating from a broken foot, leaving backup Josh Johnson and rookie Brock Purdy at the helm.

San Francisco’s highly rated defense wasn’t able to stop Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick from sacking Purdy twice in the first two quarters. Purdy left the game with an injured elbow, and Johnson took the field. But Purdy had to return to the game after Johnson got a concussion in the third quarter.

Pressure from Eagles defense also caused Purdy two fumbles. And after his elbow injury, he was unable to throw far down field.

This will be the Eagles’ fourth Super Bowl appearance. Their last one. in February 2018, was their first-ever Super Bowl win: They surprised commentators and fans across the NFL that year with an upset 41-33 win against the New England Patriots.

The Eagles were considered underdogs back then. But this year’s Eagles have momentum on their side. They seized the division title in the first round of the playoffs by routing the New York Giants 38-7.

Their regular-season performance is nothing to sneeze at either. They made 32 rushing touchdowns during the regular season, the third-highest total in NFL history. And their defense was one of the league’s best, with 70 sacks.

This year’s Super Bowl will take place in Glendale, Arizona. The Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs or Cincinnati Bengals.
