Dolphins Have A Specific Reason For Avoiding Lamar Jackson

The 2022 season was a breakout campaign for Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, as he threw for 3,548 yards and 25 touchdowns in 13 games.

But it came at a cost, as he suffered multiple concussions and took over a month to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol after the one that prematurely ended his season.

Some have suggested that Tagovailoa should retire, but he is going to continue to play while looking to find a way to avoid any further head injuries.

The concern surrounding him has caused some to wonder if the Dolphins could go after the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, but NFL reporter Jeff Darlington says they won’t because they seem to have lots of confidence in Tagovailoa.

The Dolphins will not be pursuing Lamar Jackson or any other starting QBs this off-season, multiple team sources tell me. As one source said, “Mike fully believes Tua is the perfect fit for his system.”

Darlington relayed a quote from a source who said head coach Mike McDaniel feels Tagovailoa is “the perfect fit for his system.”

When the University of Alabama product was available this season, that system looked potent, and he helped elevate the play of his teammates.

In particular, new acquisition Tyreek Hill had a career-high 1,710 yards, while second-year wide receiver Jaylen Waddle took a step toward Pro Bowl territory with 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns.

As a result, Miami ranked fourth in passing yards and touchdowns in 2022.

As long as Tagovailoa remains healthy next season, the Dolphins should have a real shot at another playoff berth.

However, they need to shore up their defense, which was just 26th in passing touchdowns allowed and 27th in passing yards given up.

Cornerback Xavien Howard is one of the league’s best, but they could use help up front, and giving Jackson the huge deal he wants would possibly prevent them from upgrading their front seven.
