Well, it seems like the first big domino of the NFL offseason picture has officially fallen.

According to reports by Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, Derek Carr has chosen to sign with the New Orleans Saints.

This was a somewhat shocking turn of events, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had just stated that Carr was leaning toward singing with the New York Jets, and HC Robert Saleh also raved about his visit with the quarterback.

The Saints were the first team to meet with Carr before the Jets and Carolina Panthers, and some reports stated that they were quite close to pulling a trade off with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Carr then decided he wasn’t going to do the team any favors by waiving his no-trade clause, which is why he was released and able to work out a completely new deal with the organization.

He was always Dennis Allen’s first choice at QB, and the Saints get much better and look like the best team in a very weak NFC South right now.

He’ll now get to work with a budding star in second-year WR Chris Olave, and a top-notch defense, as well as another star running back in Alvin Kamara.

Tom Brady’s departure has left the door wide open for any team to win the NFC South, which is maybe another reason why Carr chose the Big Easy over the Jets and the up-and-coming AFC East.

As for New York, they might turn their attention to Aaron Rodgers now.
