The New York Giants and Daniel Jones have yet to agree to his contract and future with the team.

Jones is still on his rookie deal, and the Giants are running out of time to make a franchise tag decision on him as well.

Recent reporting suggests that Jones has been looking for a contract in the neighborhood of $40 million per year.

On a recent episode of Get Up on ESPN, Dan Orlovsky noted that a contract like that for Jones is “mind-boggling.”

Jones had the best season of his career in 2022, achieving career highs in completion percentage, yards, and touchdowns.

Despite these career highs, Jones was still 15th in the league in total passing yards and 21st in total passing touchdowns.

His rushing prowess is a definite upside for Jones, as he was the fifth-leading rusher among quarterbacks.

Orlovsky continued on his Jones-centered rant, asking “Who’s paying him $40 plus million dollars?”

That is the question that the Giants will need to answer internally.

Is it worth having Jones play on the franchise tag for 2023, giving him another year to prove his abilities?

The Giants are also figuring out what they want to pay Saquon Barkley, who has also been rumored to potentially be franchise-tagged.

Between Jones and Barkley, if the team is committed to keeping both of them, they will need to dole out some serious cash to do so.

Currently, the Giants are $41 million under the salary cap, so they do have the capital available to make these deals happen.
