The Miami Dolphins benched Ryan Fitzpatrick amid the best stretch of his career because they thought Tua Tagovailoa was ready.
Then, they reportedly tried to replace him with Tom Brady before he went back to Tampa Bay and cost them a draft pick.
Mike McDaniel became their head coach and finally made Tua look good after a disappointing start to his career, but some are still hesitant to call him a franchise quarterback.
There have been some rumblings and rumors about the Dolphins looking to upgrade the QB position should a superstar become available, with Florida native Lamar Jackson as the likeliest candidate.
However, NFL analyst Colin Cowherd believes they shouldn’t be ruled out in the case Aaron Rodgers announces he wants to be traded:
“If I am Aaron Rodgers, this is so appealing to me. I’ve got a coach who created Tua last year — the highest passer rating in the league last year,” Cowherd said. “I don’t understand what people don’t see about Miami. The Jets don’t have a QB, New England offensively is tone deaf and Buffalo is regressing.”

Of course, all of this makes sense.
The Dolphins have a solid offensive line and the two fastest wideouts in the league: Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
They also have an offensive-minded coach who won’t hesitate to put the ball in Rodgers’ hands in critical, late-game situations, unlike what often happened with Matt LaFleur in Green Bay.
But maybe, this move doesn’t make all that much sense for the Dolphins.
They’d have to give up a huge haul of draft picks just to get the Packers to pick up the phone and talk to them, not to mention a big chunk of their salary cap on Rodgers’ deal.
Rodgers is one of the greatest ever, a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
But he’s 39 years old and unpredictable, so maybe this should be a no-go in Florida.
