Bryce Young Has A Message For People That Question His Size

Despite their short stature, Len Dawson, Joe Theismann, Michael Vick, Drew Brees, Fran Tarkenton, Sonny Jurgensen, and Russell Wilson thrived in the NFL and AFL.

Even so, NFL scouts are still worried about Bryce Young’s (6’0”) size and weight, and that has become the reigning narrative around him as of late.

That’s why the two-time All-American took some time to address those concerns during the NFL Scouting Combine, responding to his doubters and those who think he’ll struggle with the league’s physicality.

“I know who I am,” Young said. “I know what I can do. And, for me, it’s fair; you know, anyone can ask all the questions that’s necessary. But I’m gonna continue to control what I can control. I’m gonna keep working my hardest to put myself in a good position. I’m comfortable with myself and I know what I can do; I’m just excited to get to the next level.”

The 21-year-old will reportedly weigh “in the range” of 200 pounds at the next level, so the concerns are valid.

But then again, it’s not like he would be the first — or only — short quarterback in league history, and his strengths should outweigh the only thing he’s not impressive at.

Young has the in-game read skills of a veteran quarterback, and he dominated the SEC — the conference that provides the most future NFL players — for two years straight.

He’s got a great arm, and his ball placement is elite, not to mention his ability to break down plays in real-time and make adjustments at the line of scrimmage.

He can also move well outside of the pocket, make big gains with his feet, and won’t hesitate to go to his second or third read when things aren’t there.

Young takes great care of the ball and doesn’t force things in the offense, avoiding unnecessary hits and risks.

So, yeah, he might not be built to play at power forward, but he’s a baller.
