Despite being a major part of the Kansas City Chiefs’ personnel during their Super Bowl victory this season, Eric Bieniemy has moved on to the Washington Commanders.
Bieniemy was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator for five seasons, the five years that Patrick Mahomes has been their starting quarterback.
Now, the Chiefs are on the hunt to add difference-makers to their coaching staff.
When the news of Bieniemy first broke, many speculated that Matt Nagy would be a shoo-in for the OC role.
Nagy was the Chiefs’ OC before Bieniemy and left to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears.
During the 2022 season, Nagy returned to the Chiefs, this time as a senior assistant and quarterbacks coach.
I’m told the #Chiefs have explored the possibility of adding Pep Hamilton to their staff, per league sources. Hamilton served as the #Texans offensive coordinator in 2022. The carousel is fluid, with a lot of moving parts still up in the air. We’ll see how it goes.

Despite early reporting that Nagy would likely be named as the OC, this news above, reported by Josina Anderson, of Pep Hamilton potentially joining their staff certainly changes things.
Hamilton was the Houston Texans’ OC last season and has nearly 20 years of coaching experience.
While Nagy has been successful in the past, Hamilton’s experience might be a deciding factor within the organization, even though Nagy knows the system well at this point.
If Hamilton does join the Chiefs staff in any capacity, he will be stepping into an incredibly favorable position.
Mahomes and the offense are coming off a season in which they finished as the NFL’s top scoring unit, and he continues to hone and improve his game.
With all of this in mind, the Chiefs should continue to be the team to beat in the AFC, regardless of their support staff.
