The NFL jury is officially out on Bryce Young.
Young excelled at Alabama and left the program as one of the most accomplished players in it’s history.
He dominated SEC rivals, which isn’t a factor to overlook, as no other conference produces more NFL talent than it.
However, as impressive as the tape is, as much as his teammates and coaches rave about him, and as much as he could be a potential superstar, his lack of size and bulk are major red flags.
That’s what sports analyst Stephen A. Smith seems to think.
In the latest episode of his podcast, Smith reached out to Alabama coach Nick Saban to express his concerns about Young, citing that he just couldn’t believe how small he was.
“This kid is sensational. I met him on Super Bowl Sunday, coach; I couldn’t believe how small he was,” Smith told Saban. “I’m very concerned about it. I’m not concerned about his skill set. I’m concerned about him being able to withstand the punishment that NFL players ultimately have to endure.”

Nick Saban, however, thinks he will just fine.

Unsurprisingly, Saban came to his defense and pointed out all the positive traits in Young’s game, which are no surprise to anyone that has seen some of his film.
Young has the speed — both mentally and physically — to break down rival defenses in a matter of seconds.
His football IQ is way ahead of schedule for a guy his age, and his accuracy and ball placement make us all think that he could dominate the league for years to come.
But his size is still a concern, so he’ll always be one big hit away from a potential career-ending injury.
So, will he be the first guy taken off the board? Stay tuned to find out.
