After a surprisingly successful season in which they made the NFL playoffs, the New York Giants were facing a dilemma.

Quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley needed new contracts, and it looked like they would be forced to choose between the two franchise cornerstones.

On Tuesday, Jones and the Giants agreed to a four-year extension that will be worth $160 million to keep him in the New York City area.

It was widely thought that he was demanding a more lucrative contract than the one he ended up getting, one that many thought he wasn’t worth.

But plenty of Giants fans seem satisfied with the terms of this deal.

Giants had no choice but to resign Jones. He showed promise in Daboll’s first year and they put themselves in this situation by not picking up his fifth year option in a contract year for Barkley.

Doesn’t show here but this isn’t a bad deal. There’s an out after 2 years and the contract is front loaded so we still have cap space to play around with. Best outcome I think

But of course, there are also plenty of people who think that was an outsized deal for a QB who only threw for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2022.

Giants fan here and what an overpay

Ridiculous. Really ridiculous . $40 mil+ a year for 4 years for what? ..a 1 season improvement from absolutely awful to not bad, pretty good ??!!

he’s getting paid almost much as mahomes, his agent deserves more than what he’s getting outta this deal

Now it is time for New York to go out and improve Jones’ wide receiver corps in order to improve on an offense that ranked 24th in passing touchdowns and 26th in passing yards last season.

On the other hand, the Giants were fourth in rushing yards and touchdowns, thanks partly to Jones’ 708 yards and seven scores on the ground.

Barkley was also a huge part of that success, as he put up 1,312 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns en route to his second Pro Bowl selection.

The Giants placed their non-exclusive franchise tag for $10.1 million on him, which will keep him in the fold for now.

It will, however, allow Barkley to negotiate a contract with other teams.
