In a somewhat shocking turn of events, the Minnesota Vikings just announced they released veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks in a salary-dumping move.
The 31-year-old veteran had spent every season of his eight-year NFL career in Minneapolis after entering the league as a second-round pick in 2015, and multiple fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on this move.
My heart breaks.

A class act, he’ll be missed in Minnesota. All the best to him as he moves on to the next chapter!

He led the team with 137 tackles last season, recording at least 100 tackles every single year after his rookie season.
He was a Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection in 2019 and logged more than 900 tackles in his 117 starts for the organization.
This move saves the Vikings nearly $10 million, taking them to something close to $14 million over the cap ahead of the March 15 salary-cap deadline.
Notably, that means that the Vikings are likely going to make even more major moves to try and get under the cap.
Notably, DT Dalvin Thompson and CB Patrick Peterson are both going to test free agency, while some think they could also look to move on from S Harrison Smith and LB Za’Darius Smith.
Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook might also be subjects of trade speculation or will have to restructure their contracts to try and help the team stay competitive beyond next season.
The Vikings were one of the best teams in the league last season, at least in terms of their record.
However, they couldn’t even win a single playoff game despite having the home field advantage over the New York Giants, and it mostly seems like their success was a fluke and won’t be sustainable for long.
