When it comes to next month’s NFL draft, the quarterback position is attracting a lot of attention because of hot prospects such as Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud who are thought to have serious potential as possible stars.

But the draft is also thought to have plenty of depth at other positions.

One interesting non-QB prospect is University of Michigan cornerback DJ Turner II, who wowed NFL scouts at the combine this week by showing off his world-class speed in the 40-yard dash.

Running the 40-yard dash in less than 4.4 seconds is good enough, but getting under 4.3 seconds is something else.

Turner played three seasons for the Wolverines, and after barely playing in 2020, he became a starter the next season and put up seven passes defended and two interceptions.

This season, he broke up 10 passes and intercepted one more while adding a fumble recovery for the 13-1 Wolverines.

Turner is a Georgia native, and after starring at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., he was heavily recruited before deciding to head north toward the Big Ten to enroll at the University of Michigan.

Many project him to be taken in one of the later rounds of the NFL draft, possibly on it’s second day.

The biggest thing that may be keeping him from being a first-round pick is his modest size.

At just six feet and about 180 pounds, he may not have the stature or the strength to hang with modern-day NFL wide receivers, many of whom are at least 6-foot-2 and weigh closer to or over 200 pounds.
