In the NFL, one of the biggest tasks any head coach has when he signs on with a new team is to establish a strong working relationship with his new coach.

It looks like Jonathan Gannon, the Arizona Cardinals‘ new head coach, is forging a good relationship with Kyler Murray, as he told CBS Sports that he’s been talking to Murray every day since getting the job, and they’ve even established some ground rules as far as the best time of day to communicate with each other.

Murray suffered a torn ACL late in the 2022 season, and he has apparently been hard at work rehabbing his bad knee in an attempt to be ready for next season.

The knock on him has been that he is supposedly lazy, and the critics that have gone at him for that supposed trait were validated when his new contract had an “independent study” clause.

This clause stipulated that he must spend four hours a week during the season preparing for the Cardinals’ next opponent, and that he cannot play video games, watch television or surf the internet while studying.

However, the team quickly removed the clause after it created a media stir.

Arizona could look somewhat different next season, as wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is widely expected to be traded.

While he is still a solid threat who put up 717 yards and three touchdowns in 2022, he is going to be 31 years of age next season, and has a cap hit of over $30 million for the 2023 campaign.
