The Jets Have Reportedly Started Contract Extension Talks With A Key Player

The New York Jets need to do whatever is necessary to build a playoff team this offseason.

It has been too long since the last time they were in the postseason, and Jets fans are becoming restless.

The last time the Jets were in the playoff was in 2010 when they lost in the AFC Championship game.

But, they are looking to take the steps necessary to get back to the postseason.

The first move the Jets are looking to make is to extend one of their best players.

That is defensive tackle, Quinnen Williams.

According to Jets GM Joe Douglas, the team has started negotiations with Williams on a contract extension.

Williams was one of the best defensive players in the NFL in 2022.

He recorded 12.0 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 28 quarterback hits.

The 25-year-old was the leader of the defensive front and his efforts had him named first-team all-pro.

Also, he placed seventh in the defensive player of the year voting.

There is no question the Jets can not allow Williams to walk in free agency.

He is far too dominant and is just entering the prime of his career.

The Jets had a playoff-caliber defense last year, and Williams was a big part of that.

All they are missing from getting back to the postseason is a quality quarterback.

Other than extending Williams, the Jets better be ready to pay up for a star QB.

Whether that is signing Derek Carr, or trading for Aaron Rodgers, the Jets need to make a move at that position.

If they can manage that, then the Jets will be a contender in the AFC.
