They called him a madman, but Dan Campbell has done an outstanding job in charge of the Detroit Lions, all things considered.

It seemed like the team was in for another very long season, but they managed to turn things around and cap the year off with a playoff berth.

The players have bought in on Campbell’s gritty philosophy and hard-working ways, and they would run through a brick wall for their Head Coach every day of the week because they know he would do the same for them.

But as good as Campbell has been at building a culture within the locker room, some of his assistants also deserve plenty of praise for that, especially Ben Johnson.

With Johnson as their Offensive Coordinator, the Lions were actually tied for the league lead in three-and-out percentage, going three-and-out on just 25% of their drives.

Notably, that’s the very same percentage the reigning Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs had with Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy sharing play-calling duties.

Johnson even made Jared Goff look like an NFL quarterback for the better part of the season, and now he’ll have a full campaign of a healthy Jameson Williams to game-plan for.

The Lions took a huge leap between seasons and still have plenty of money and cap space to keep adding talent on both sides of the field.

And with a guy like Johnson pulling the strings of the offense, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them reach the postseason in 2023.
