The Ravens Have An Unfortunate History With Drafting WRs

The Baltimore Ravens have a unique history with the NFL Draft.

In 2018, they drafted Mark Andrews and Lamar Jackson, and both have turned out extremely well, with Jackson winning league MVP in 2019.

They have also drafted several impactful defensive players in the last five years, including Kyle Hamilton, Odafe Oweh, and Patrick Queen.

For some reason, however, the Ravens’ wide receivers haven’t panned out as they would have hoped.

Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley points out that, since their inaugural season in 1996, the Ravens have not drafted a Pro Bowl receiver.

Since the Ravens’ first draft in 1996, Baltimore is the only team to not draft a Pro Bowl wide receiver.

“It’s one of those anomalies that I really can’t explain, other than to say that we’re not going to stop trying,” GM Eric DeCosta said.

In the last ten drafts, the Ravens have used three total first-round picks on wide receivers.

Those players were Breshad Perriman, Rashod Bateman, and Marquise Brown.

Bateman was a highly touted receiver out of the University of Minnesota but hasn’t been able to contribute much in his first two seasons due to injury.

Brown was an impactful player on the Ravens but has been recently traded to the Arizona Cardinals.

Perriman hasn’t lived up to his first-round potential either and has bounced around the league since being initially drafted by the Ravens.

Ultimately, the team has struggled with wide receiver talent, and as a result, is the only team in the NFL to never draft a Pro Bowler at the position.

The Ravens are heading into the 2023 season with a somewhat depleted wide receiver room.

Currently on the roster are Bateman, Tylan Wallace, Devin Duvernay, and Andy Isabella as their top four receivers.

While Bateman possesses the skill to be a number-one option for Jackson, the Ravens are likely to add another weapon or two to complement him.
