NFL Fans React To Odell Beckham Jr.’s Reported Contract Demands

When he’s healthy, not many offensive players in the National Football League are as impactful as Odell Beckham Jr.

That’s why it was such a surprise to see him go unsigned last season and why some speculated that his knee recovery didn’t go as planned.

He was linked to multiple contending teams at some point during the 2022 season, even if he were to be signed to a short-term ‘prove-it’ kind of deal to drive his market value up again.

However, that never happened, and it might be a while before we see him join a new team.

That’s because the latest reports state that he’s looking at making around $20 million per year.

OBJ is still looking for $20M per year; it’s hard to imagine him getting that without proving himself first. https://t.co/BEQHGW20iQ

Needless to say, that raised several comments on social media:

What strain OBJ on? Man’s think he still 2016 obj. Bruh you gone have to play this season on a super cheap 1 year contract and prove you still Heem before someone gone buss down 20Ms a season on you. 2 ACL surgery’s you gone have to get it out the mud big dawg pic.twitter.com/8UbcqkEgxD

OBJ may be one of the most overrated players of our generation. I can’t think of many other players who have gotten such a high level of praise without accomplishing anything. Has yet to go for 1k yards since 2019 and hasn’t hit 1100 since 2016.

I guess he won’t be playing this coming season

OBJ is one of the most gifted athletes in the league and one that would be worthy of that kind of money if it wasn’t for his history of injuries.

He suffered a torn ACL in Super Bowl LVI and there are serious concerns about his durability, so it’s hard to envision any team willing to meet his steep salary pretensions.

Instead, it’s likely he will sign a lesser deal, most likely a one-year contract in which he can prove that he can still play at the highest level despite such a long layoff.

The Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, and New Orleans Saints were among the teams that showed the biggest interest in making a run at him last season.

Whether they’ll still look to sign him at such a hefty price remains to be seen.
